Many of you know the stars of Pug Day with Rolly Polly & Captain Dylan, the children’s book about a typical day in the life of two working pugs. For those of you who have not met these two adorable pug sisters, let me assure you the hype is real. They are always excited to come to the store, love the people who visit them, and have the best life a pug could wish for.
After fourteen years of serving her community and keeping me safe by barking at anyone who walked by the shop, Big Fat Rolly Polly Pug, her full name, has passed away. I will, and want all of you, to remember the fat little pug who ran around Empire’s Comics demanding attention and never being satisfied with the amount she got.
Thank you to everyone who brought this beautiful pug such joy. The scratches on her head, the belly rubs, holding her in your arms as she slept, and so much more are why the shop was so important to her. She always knew when it was almost time to head to work based on my activities around the house and wouldn’t leave my side for fear of being left behind.
There will be more Rolly Polly in the next two children’s books that are in the works. What is so special about these volumes is that the artists I am teaming with loved Rolly. Both knew her well and had even done paintings of her long before the book! Jen Monson and Helen Lam will help us all remember Rolly Polly as the perfect little pug she was.
Hail to the queen, baby!
If there are any special memories you have of Rolly, I’d love to read them in the comments or hear them in the shop.
She will always be such an important and big/little part of my favorite comic shop, always.
Sad to hear of her passing. She was awesome. My favorite part about the shop was seeing the puggies. So happy her memory will be shared through story ☺️
